Manzil (منزل) is a compiled set of Quranic verses that Muslims recite for spiritual protection — against the evil eye (nazar), black magic (sihr), the whispers of Shaytan, and jinn-related harm. The word "Manzil" means "a stopping place" or "destination," symbolizing a place of refuge for the one reciting it.
Unlike a single surah, Manzil brings together specific ayahs and full surahs from different parts of the Quran, selected for their emphasis on protection and refuge. It is commonly recited once a day — many prefer the morning or before sleeping — and is especially recommended for the home, since it is also believed to help keep a household protected.
Why People Recite Manzil
It is authentically reported that during his fatal illness, when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) grew too weak to do it himself, his wife Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) would recite the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Nas) over him and blow her breath over his body, continuing the same ruqyah he used to perform on himself when unwell (Sahih al-Bukhari 5735). Manzil draws on this same tradition, gathering verses associated with protection into a single daily recitation.
